Dr. Brooks is a compassionate and dedicated veterinarian committed to providing exceptional care for animals of all shapes and sizes. Dr. Brooks is originally from the small town of St. Amant, LA and moved from Baton Rouge, LA to join our team in August 2023, bringing a deep understanding of the unique health needs and behaviors of our furry friends.
Known for his warm demeanor and gentle approach, Dr. Brooks believes in building strong relationships with both pets and their owners. He understands that each animal is unique and takes the time to listen to his clients and address any concerns. Dr. Brooks is dedicated to providing comprehensive and personalized care, whether it's a routine check-up or a complex surgical procedure, and he works tirelessly to expand his knowledge and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine through continuing education and professional development.
As a veterinarian, Dr. Brooks has a particular interest in neurology (the focus of his early career in research), surgery, and fear/anxiety mitigation. This specialized knowledge allows him to offer advanced diagnostic plans, treatment options, and preventive care tailored to the individual needs of each animal. Dr. Brooks takes pride in educating pet owners about proper nutrition, behavior, and wellness strategies to ensure the long and healthy lives of their beloved companions.
On his days off Dr. Brooks enjoys spending time at home with his wife, their two sons, and their two dogs; hiking and exploring the mountains; visiting museums and historical sites; and avidly following his beloved LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. He and his wife love discovering all of the activities and adventures in Western NC that their kids can enjoy and are always open to recommendations!

My Story
Dr. Brooks's journey into veterinary medicine, though rooted in a passion for animals that started at a young age, wasn’t a story of manifesting a lifelong dream as is the case for many veterinarians. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University in 2015, he then set out on a path toward a career in neuroscience, matriculating in an Interdisciplinary PhD program in Aging Studies at Tulane University in New Orleans. Throughout his studies there, Dr. Brooks came to find his calling toward veterinary medicine in the realization that the aspects of biomedical research that best suit his passion and his skillset, such as directly examining animals on an individual level and the technical aspects of designing and implementing treatments, are much more integral to clinical practice than to research. Dr. Brooks then changed course to pursue veterinary medicine and eventually earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. Since then, he has practiced primary care and emergency medicine in the greater Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas until the opportunity to branch out and have a change of scenery drew him and his family here to Mills River.
